It's Done!

Most of you got to see the kitchen in it's almost finished stage at Logan's birthday party.  I think all that was missing was the backsplash, the glass cabinet and some other cabinet doors.  Well it is finally complete!  I guess I need to pay the bill now :(

Our backsplash - we went with a 4 x 12 glass subway tile in a grey-green color with some accent tile liners.

I love these pullouts.  No more blind corners.

 View into FL room.

Still waiting on our new stools.    This was a tough decision.  They are a mixture of metal and a rustic wood.  I wanted upholstered chairs but after watching Logan eat dinner and wipe his hands all over the furniture this seemed like a much better option.  And a back was necessary - I had visions of Brady tumbling over backwards.

Love the glass doors.  This cabinet was an addition to the original plan and caused some delays.  We now have a place to store our decorative serving platters.

Happy Valentine's Day

Yesterday I came home to counters and a functioning sink.  I can't think of a better Valentine's present!  All I know about the sink is that it's huge and the new love of my life.  What a difference from washing bottles in the bathroom sink.  The counters are Cambria quartz in Darlington.  They have a little bit of sparkle to them which I love but it doesn't show in the pictures.

We have appliances!

Being stuck at work is torture! I can't wait to go home and see them in person!

We're back

After 4 weeks we have moved back in!  All (well most) of the dirty construction work
is complete and now we are in the stages of putting everything back together.  We still don't have a functioning kitchen but it should only be another week or two.

Blank slate.
 Making progress.
They came and did the template for the counters last Friday.  I can't wait to see the counter.  The largest piece I have seen is a 12x12 tile.  I have been carrying this little piece around with me for months.  The counters should be in early next week.  Most of the work is on hold now until they are in.
We spent all weekend cleaning up in anticipation of moving in.  I think it will be months before all that dust is totally gone.  Here is a shot of Logan scrubbing the floors - I knew we had kids for a reason :)
Brady slacked off the entire time.  We'll put him to work soon enough.
 Our new family room setup.
Our temporary kitchen.  It hasn't been too bad, of course it's only been 2 days.  Talk to me again in 2 weeks if we still don't have the kitchen sink hooked up.

Almost all the cabinets are in.  We should be getting some replacement cabinets today or tomorrow.  They made the openings in the cabinets next to the stove too big - the doors wouldn't be able to open all the way the way they were made.  And our pantry was made 12 inches deep instead of 24 inches.  We are also still waiting for the cabinet that goes were the garbabge can is in the picture.
Overall we are (slowly) making progress.

3 Week Update

Well after 3 weeks we still aren't living in the house.  They have finished the floors and most of the baseboards and crown molding.  They also added the drywall where the wood paneling was and to the kitchen ceiling.  They still have more sanding and painting to do and hopefully they will be able to start on the cabinets by Wednesday.  Keep your fingers crossed!

Our new header and post.
 The cutest construction worker.
Finished floors, baseboards and crown molding.
The wood panel wall.  This is such a small change but seems so drastic to me after looking at the ugly paneling for 8 years.  I love it!
New recessed lighting in the kitchen.  I got an email about my pendant lights for the breakfast bar yesterday.  For those that don't know - they came damaged back in the beginning of December.  I went through the return process and was then told they were backordered until January 20th.  I sent them an email on the 23rd asking for the status and was told they would ship on the 30th.  Now I got an email saying they are backordered until February 15th!  Very frustrating.

What a difference a day makes

Well we've officially begun renovations!  It's amazing how quickly a house can be demolished.  If only they could put it back together as quickly!  We've got one week under our belt and have already encountered our first hiccup.  I think we took it in stride and have made arrangements to work around it.

So far they have removed all the tile, popcorn ceiling, crown molding and demo'ed the kitchen.  Part of the wall in the kitchen has come down but it is load bearing and the posts are exactly where we didn't want them to do be.  We did a little reconfiguring to the layout and a new support beam and post should be put in on Monday.

Please excuse how dark some photos are - I only get to see the progress in the evening and the electricity isn't always on :)

House all cleared out...

So that's where all the furniture went!  All the bedrooms look like this...
No more wood paneling.  This will be the new TV wall.
Good-bye 80s drop down ceiling.  It didn't seem like the drop down was concealing any duct work - I guess it was purely decorative :)

 My nemesis wall...
A sneak peek to the tile that they are hopefully starting to install on Monday.
